ER telemedicine now available for pediatric patients

An agreement with CHOC Children’s brings a higher level of pediatric care to Corona Regional Medical Center

The agreement means greater access for high-risk and critical care pediatric patients who come to the ER. Pediatric Critical Care Specialist Jason Knight, MD, Medical Director of CHOC Children’s Emergency Transport services and the CHOC Children’s Telehealth Program, explains that the InTouch robot enables him to evaluate children who come to Corona Regional’s ER. “The robot is put at the child’s bedside and can gather vital signs and other data. There is also a monitor on the robot that allows us to see the patient, their parents and the ER doctors in real-time, and have a discussion about the child’s care,” says Dr. Knight.

Corona Regional ER Educator Brittany Lovell, RN, BSN, PHN, TNCC, says, “It is comforting to parents that a specialist can be consulted immediately when their child is seriously ill or injured. If the child’s condition is deemed critical, CHOC Children’s will send their ambulance to get the patient. Otherwise, the child can be admitted right here to our Pediatric Care Unit.”

Envision Physician Services, a top multispecialty physician group and healthcare service team, recently honored James Rhee, MD, FACMT, FACEP, FAAEM, as their 2017 Emergency Medicine Physician of the Year. The award is given to an emergency medicine doctor who is recognized as a leader in the healthcare industry.

“It is very humbling to receive this award,” says Dr. Rhee. “I am grateful and proud to work with such a dedicated team at Corona Regional Medical Center.”

Dr. Rhee joined forces with Director of the Emergency Room Jennifer Peach-Guzman, RN, BSN, MBA, and Chief Nursing Officer and Patient Experience Director Kim Colonnelli, RN, BSN, MBA, to help put new ER processes in place and to advance the hospital’s mission of transforming the patient experience in Western Riverside county.

“As a result of Dr. Rhee’s leadership, the amount of time between a patient’s arrival in the ER and when they are seen by a doctor has dropped significantly,” says CEO Mark Uffer. “We are excited he is part of the team that continues to provide quality, patient-centered care to our community.”
