Physical Rehabilitation

Philosophy and Goals
Whether it is from a sudden, debilitating injury such as a stroke or an accident, or a chronic, progressive neurological disease, the goal of the physical Rehabilitation Center at Corona Regional Medical Center is to return those who have experienced a disabling injury or illness to their maximum level of physical functioning, independence, self-sufficiency and community interaction.

Guided by this goal, the Center strives to:
  • Meet the medical, rehabilitative and psychological needs of the patient.
  • Educate the patient and family in order to assist in their emotional and social adjustment.
  • Provide assistance in re-establishing the patient within the community.
  • Provide continuing support services.
At the Rehabilitation Center, every patient receives an individualized program of care developed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. The rehabilitation team evaluates each patient to plan an appropriate, individualized course of treatment, with an emphasis placed on one-on-one therapy. The team regularly meets to evaluate and update the program according to the patient's progress.

The Center provides two levels of care, depending on the patient's condition.

Acute Rehabilitation
Our Acute Rehabilitation Unit is designed to provide care to patients who require intensive rehabilitation services. All patients admitted to our unit receive comprehensive care from a multidisciplinary team of trained professionals under the direction of a physiatrist (physician specialized in physical rehabilitation).

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is appropriate for the following individuals:
  • People with functional impairments resulting from trauma, illness, complex surgery, or developmental disease
  • People who show evidence of being able to participate in three hours or more of rehabilitation therapy activities a day
  • People whose medical condition is stable enough to allow participation in rehabilitation activities
  • People who are likely to make functional gains as a result of an inpatient rehabilitation stay
People who are unable to tolerate the pace of acute rehabilitation may be candidates for our sub-Acute Rehabilitation Unit.

Sub-Acute Rehabilitation
For patients with short or long term illnesses, or for patients not able to tolerate the intensity of acute rehabilitation, our Center also features a 30-bed unit for those who need daily skilled nursing or sub-acute rehabilitation care. Our nursing unit provides a high ratio of registered and licensed vocational nurses to patients. Assuring a high quality of care in a compassionate homelike setting.

Patients served on the Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Unit include those with the following needs:
  • Skilled nursing or less acute rehabilitation
  • Long-term ventilator care
  • Short-term tracheostomy or ventilator care
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
